This term, Year 1 have been doing some alien-themed 'Let's get cooking!' sessions. Today for our Fabulous Finish, Golden Gate Bridge class invited their families to make some alien treats together with them to show their new cooking skills! They made rocket fruit kebabs, spaceship cheese and crackers, apple and elderflower alien fizz and other exciting nibbles too! On Friday 17th of March, Year One jumped into action with a visit from the Health and Wellbeing Team. We got our heart rates up with some fun group exercise then learned all about the importance of having a healthy diet, keeping our teeth clean and getting plenty of sleep. We are now experts! On our last family cooking session this term, our groups made Vegetable Chow Mein. We used loads of fresh vegetables, and practised our safe chopping and frying techniques. We all tasted some foods that we hadn't had before. Do you know where water chestnuts grow? We all went home to check! This was a great group to work with and we tried lots of different recipes that we hadn't made at home.
Last week our lovely young choir got up early to meet the coach to take us to The White Rock Theatre in Hastings. They were to take part in an exciting competition with choirs from around the county performing 2 songs. The children were so excited and sung their little socks off on the journey there and back. Today, our School Parliament representatives from years 3-6 visited the Town Hall in Eastbourne. They were given a very interesting guided tour and had the opportunity to meet the Mayor and the Mayor's Consort. They saw a variety of rooms including the Chambers and learnt about the Mayors robes and duties. They also found out that although the Mayor has to deliver speeches to lots of people, which she finds very daunting, she also gets to meet some very interesting people.
We had a fantastic World Book Day yesterday and the children looked fabulous in their costumes! The day was launched with an assembly about teachers' favourite children books and then the children were engrossed in lots of Reading activities within their lessons! A great time was had by all, including Mrs. Young who is pictured here as Angelina Ballerina!
To celebrate the 20th World Book Day, Year 1 pupils shared books with pupils from Causeway Secondary Schoool. A huge thank you to the Causeway pupils and their teacher for joining us and sharing their passion for children's literature.
