Some quick and easy ways to keep Healthy Bodies!
Check your child’s book bag - we regularly give out leaflets with information regarding sporting clubs and activities,
including free opportunities, for after school, holidays and weekends.
Check this A-Z of Sport and Leisure in our local area! This has hundreds of sports clubs and activities, available for all age ranges.
Try the Outdoor Fitness Playground in the Archery Recreation Ground (Seaside) or in Adur Park in Stone Cross!
Keep hydrated! A re-usable bottle can be bought for less than 20p at Tesco! Aim to drink at least 1 litre of water a day to keep yourself fresh.
Out of inspiration for cooking? Try googling ‘healthy, quick recipes’ or ‘healthy food on a budget’, or ‘time saving recipes’ and you will be spoilt for choice!
Make a meal planner - a fantastic way to ensure you aren’t making those ‘quick-fixes’ in a rush that aren’t as good for us! Plan ahead, and when you have time, bulk cook! Meal planning also helps you save a great amount on your food budget.
At Langney Primary Academy, we understand the importance of ensuring our whole-school community lead healthy and happy lifestyles. We are dedicated to the mental, physical and emotional health and well-being of our children, families and staff and we know that children can only achieve their best when they are feeling their best, inside and out.
We actively promote physical and emotional health and equip our pupils with the understanding and skills they need to make informed decisions about their health, both now and in the future. As such, our pupils are eager enthusiasts for healthy living and well-being.

To support our aims, we are on a journey to achieving the Well-being Award for
Schools (WAS), helping us to continue to improve and develop the standards and
practises that ensure we are a healthy community.
The Thrive Approach draws on insights from the fields of neuroscience, attachment theory and child development to provide a powerful way of working with children and young people that supports optimal social and emotional development. Thrive equips adults to work in a targeted way with children and young people who may need support to re-engage with life and learning.

Physical, Mental and Emotional Health are undoubtedly strongly linked. At Langney Primary, Physical Education and Physical Health is a particular strength!
We have at least 1 x 45min games session a week and 1 x 45 mins skills lesson a week (focusing on an area of fitness, or supporting activities e.g. yoga, dance, gymnastics etc)
We offer a wide variety of physical extra curricular activities over the course of the academic year (many are seasonal) including boys and girls football, athletics, yoga, fencing and tag rugby to name a few
Every class in years 3-6 have a weekly swimming lesson for at least a term, with extra lessons provided for those that are not yet able to swim 25m unaided during year 6.
Our school dinners are provided by an external catering company, Chartwells, who “strive to create the most tasty meals, that are nutritionally balanced and compliant with School Food Standards”
We offer weekly opportunities for children to try a new fruit or vegetable that they may not have tried before, in ‘What’s This Wednesdays’
Our fantastic wrap-around care, Breakfast Club, Sunrise Club, Twilights Club and Sunsets Club all offer snacks that are healthy and filling for our children.
We have a ‘Tuck Shop’ open to Juniors each break time, where they are able to purchase a healthy snack, such as fruit, bagels and popcorn, for a low cost.
We run whole-school activities each year that encourage taking part in a physical activity whilst having tons of fun! We often raise money during these events too, such as Race For Life, the Reindeer Run and the Skipathon.
Here at Langney Primary, we appreciate the value of ‘Healthy Mind, Healthy Body’ and vice versa. We endeavour to take care of our whole health - emotionally, mentally and physically. Here are a few ways that we take care of our minds and emotional well being in our school:
Each Monday, the Head of School leads an assembly with a focus on our health and our school values. Past assemblies have included a focus on how to recognise our feelings, who we can talk to if we need help, appreciation for all we have and looking at the world with our glass half full.
We offer counselling services.
We have many Thrive Trained Practitioners and we are a ‘Thrive Approach’ school, with all staff
undertaking regular Thrive training.
Our PSHE curriculum has been specifically chosen to support children’s social, emotional and
mental health, to ensure it helps our learners become caring, supportive and well-equipped
members of society.
Some classes have weekly yoga sessions as part of their PE sessions.
Four of our pupils are ‘well-being champions’. This role includes supporting the Change Team with important updates, decisions and plans in relation to the school community’s health and well-being.
Our Change Team consists of a variety of adults, parents and pupils from the school who have a great passion for ensuring the health and well-being of our whole school community is taken care for, and that information is
readily available to all who require and would like it.
Health in Mind
The free NHS service for residents of East Sussex experiencing stress, anxiety or low mood. Their skilled therapists provide the support you need to feel positive and in control again.
