“We aspire to ignite a love of music for every pupil, through exposure to a wide range of music genres and an inspiring specialist music education.
Our vision is for all pupils to leave primary school having had opportunities to perform, compose, listen and share their music with others in a range of genres with different instruments. This creative musical learning will raise self esteem, confidence and in turn, inspire others.”

BEING A CENTRE OF
INNOVATION IN MUSIC
Music provision at Langney Primary Academy has been a result of curriculum experimentation and continuous reflection leading us to a decision to enrol specialist music teachers to best reach the needs of our children in their music journey. Through constant reflection on the quality of teaching we have been prepared to take risks and think outside of the box as to how our music provision might look. Music at Langney is never dull!
BEING A CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE IN MUSIC
At Langney we have chosen to teach music through specialist teachers. Advanced teacher subject knowledge promotes depth of coverage and effective progression through the National Curriculum and beyond. This in turn supports our staff and builds on their subject knowledge. This also gives the optimum opportunity for pupils to be engaged and inspired and reach their potential. Music lessons are therefore incredibly important and here we want to provide the best opportunities for our children to listen with attention and learn notation. Our array of instruments in our Music room enables children to be taught in a centre of excellence.
OF PUPILS IN
TALENT DISCOVERY OF PUPILS IN MUSIC
At Langney we love to unlock our children’s hidden talents. Through music programmes such as ‘Rocksteady,’ children’s musical talents have been discovered. These are children who may not have stood out in class, but have proven themselves to have a natural talent on the guitars and some, as quiet as a mouse, have shown they can sing a rock ballad in front of the whole school with pizzazz!
It is our enrichment and extra-curricular provision that enables this discovery to happen. Children that have had these experiences at this stage in their life will hopefully have a raised confidence elevating their aspiration and life opportunities, whilst also providing some children with a passion or life long love of music.
A BALANCE BETWEEN EXCELLENCE (STANDARDS) AND ENJOYMENT IN
A BALANCE BETWEEN EXCELLENCE AND ENJOYMENT IN MUSIC
Langney has long had a reputation for its excellence in singing. A Funky Friday assembly with a hall full of children singing the rock classics and another weekly assembly on a Tuesday devoted to singing is a testament to this.
We have various annual musical showcases. We also have choirs such as Little Voices and a KS2 choir that attend a club to rehearse for the Young Voices annual concert at the O2. Our choirs often perform with confidence and gusto during special assemblies.

RAISING ASPIRATIONS & LIFE CHANCES IN MUSIC
It is our enrichment and extra-curricular provision that provides the pathway by raising aspirations inside our pupils. Children that have had these musical experiences at this stage in their life will have a raised confidence elevating their aspiration and life opportunities, whilst also providing some children with a passion or life long love of music.
HEALTH AND WELLBEING LINKS TO
HEALTH & WELLBEING IN MUSIC
We provide children with opportunities to make music and express themselves creatively. Through independent performance, but also together in an ensemble where every small part plays an important role in a performance, enables a feeling of joy and achievement that is difficult to pinpoint and can not easily be replicated in anything other subject.
Becoming immersed in Music is something we encourage as part of our school wide ‘5 ways to wellbeing.’ We believe listening to, composing and playing Music has a profound, positive influence on pupils' mental health.
