In today's increasingly global world, learning a second language can give your child advantages in their school years and beyond. Early language learning has been tied to higher test scores, better and more advanced reading skills, greater confidence and more. A second language builds a bridge to another culture and opens the door to new friendships. Quite simply, learning languages sets the foundation for a whole world of exciting opportunities for your child!
As part of the new primary curriculum for languages, teaching at Key Stage 2 (Years 3, 4, 5 and 6) may be of any modern or ancient foreign language and should focus on enabling pupils to make substantial progress in one language. At Langney Primary School, we teach Spanish to all Key Stage 2 classes.
Spanish is taught on a weekly basis by a specialist Spanish teacher, and provides a balance between spoken and written language. As the majority of secondary schools in Eastbourne teach Spanish , this language has been deliberately chosen to so that it lays the foundations for foreign language teaching at Key Stage 3.
In addition to Spanish, the school also offers after school clubs for German and French Club.
