We have a team of very dedicated and skilled volunteers who serve as school governors and focus their efforts on what really matters – improving education and pupil outcomes for every child at Langney Primary Academy.
The governors at Langney Primary Academy challenge and support the Executive Headteacher, Head of School and other senior leaders as key strategic decision makers and vision setters for the school. All the day-to-day operational matters are the responsibility of the Head of School and staff. Governors play a vital role in:
driving up the school’s and pupils’ performance;
ensuring resources are used well to give every child the best possible education;
ensuring statutory duties are met;
holding school leaders to account for improving school performance.
Langney Primary Academy Structure of Governance
There are no separate committees; the Full Governing Body (FGB) meets once a term.
Governor roles and responsibilities are agreed at the start of the academic year. Governors then monitor:
Special Educational Needs and Vulnerable Pupils
Safeguarding (including child protection and e-safety)
Premises, Health and Safety
Extended Schools Partnerships
Headteacher Performance Management
Early Years Foundation Stage
British Values and Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Education
Leadership Development (phase leadership and subject leadership)
Higher Achieving Pupils
Digital Technology and Website Compliance
Governors work strategically with senior leaders in order to:
ensure clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
support and strengthen school leadership;
contribute to the school’s self-evaluation and understand its strengths and weaknesses;
monitor progress against the school development plan;
ensure statutory duties are met and priorities are approved;
carry out regular audits of governors’ skills in the light of the skills and competences they need and actively seek to address identified gaps;
evaluate the impact of the work being undertaken by panels and individual governors.
The Full Governing Body meet in order for all governors to:
ensure financial resources made available to the school are managed effectively;
monitor the use of pupil premium and other resources to overcome barriers to learning including reading, writing and mathematics;
monitor the use and impact of Sport Premium funding;
consult with the Head Teacher in drafting the first formal budget plan of the financial year and establish and maintain an up to date three year financial plan;
monitor expenditure of all voluntary funds kept on behalf of the Governing Body;
establish and keep under review a Building Development Plan;
regularly review the staffing structure;
establish and review the Appraisal Policy for all staff and determine whether sufficient funds are available for increments as recommended by the Head of School and Executive Head Teacher.
