Our Year 6 family Let's Get Cooking group finished the term off by making pumpkin soup. They took the seeds home for roasting, and carved the pumpkins. Great fun was had by all, and the soup was delicious!
Angkor Wat class have had an explosive term learning about Fireworks! We loved finishing our start to Year 5 with a presentation to our parents. We started by singing 'Firework' by Katy Perry - we'd practised so hard with the actions and that really shone through when we sung! Four children took part in 'Sports Crew Training' at The Causeway Secondary School on Tuesday. They took part in a series of activities along with other schools. Being a member of the 'Sports Crew' means that they will be responsible for developing, organising and running school sport activities during break/lunchtimes. The children attended the event along with Mrs Young and Mr Field.
Today was the last session of the Sussex Downs Art, Craft and Decoupage Course for parents and it looked like everyone had a fabulous time. Speaking about what they enjoyed about the course the participants said, "it was nice to meet and socialise with like-minded people. Great to learn new skills ad have a chat and a laugh whilst doing it. We are all looking forward to the next course." Watch this space!!
As part of Year 2's topic "Let the Battle Commence" the children have been learning all about the Battle of Hastings and the events that led up to it. This historic moment in 1066 was brought to life by taking a trip to Battle Abbey to re-enact the battle that took place there. The children were fully prepared in their Saxon and Norman costumes with their wonderful shields which they designed and made at school. Six children from Year 4 took part in an Enterprise Challenge at the Congress Suite on Monday. Their task was to design a toiletries range and present their product and marketing plan to the judges. Unfortunately, we didn't win but Mrs. Pursall said that all the children worked extremely well together and put so much into their design and presentation. We are all very proud of them!
This afternoon Year 1 parents were invited to a phonic session where we outlined why Year 1 is such an important year for the children's phonic development. Namely the phonic screening in June, which is a national check of the children's phonic development. We also looked at how phonics is taught at Langney and learnt a few phonics tricks along the way; finishing off with a fun quiz. Miss Pollard and Mr Pickford took a group of Year 5 and 6 children to Worthing this week to visit the new Boar's Head Memorial at Beach House Park and to take part in a workshop kindly offered by Chatsmore Catholic High School to create artwork inspired by the Memorial. It was a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to share their knowledge of Nelson Victor Carter VC with staff from a secondary school who had included him in their project. The food has been collected by representatives of the Eastbourne Food Bank and will be distributed to local families.
