E-Safety National Accreditation

Just a few weeks after receiving the ICT Mark, Langney Primary School have gained another national accreditation!

Following a rigorous assessment by the South West Grid for Learning, Langney Primary School have been awarded the 360 e-safety Mark, which acknowledges the school’s commitment to make their community safer online.

The South West Grid for Learning provides a comprehensive Self Review Tool which allows school to scrutinise every area of their e-safety provision. To apply for the 360 degree safe E-Safety Mark, schools have to reach a series of benchmark levels when they complete the online self-review. The evidence is then verified by a visit from experienced Assessors.

The prime benefit of using the review and applying for the E-Safety Mark is that it does not focus on the individual aspects of e-safety such as technological solutions, but instead it integrates e-safety into school policy and the curriculum, challenging teachers and managers in the school to think about their provision and its continual evolution. Schools are expected to show that they have provided a high standard of e-safety education and awareness for all staff , pupils and also for parents and carers, to ensure that these users of the new technologies can be safe online – whether they are in school, in their homes or out and about using mobile phones or other handheld devices.

The assessment team were particularly impressed by the e-safety confidence shown by staff, pupils, governors, carers and parents. 360 Assessor, Michael Krause, praised the school in its approach of using a ‘pupil voice’ in developing the e-safety provision. Mark Dawson, Lead Computing Teacher, said, “It is very reassuring to gain acknowledgement from a leading organisation that supports schools and other organisations in safeguarding children online. Ultimately this process has been about equipping our pupils and community with the knowledge they need to protect themselves online. We will continue to develop this and ensure all stakeholders have ownership.”

A huge well done to Mr. Dawson for leading our e-safety provision at the school over the past 15 months. Well done to the whole Langney community!
