Year 2 Celebration of Physical Education Learning

Thank you for the huge turn out of parents who attended Year 2's Fabulous Finish at the end of Term 4.
The children really enjoyed the carousel of sports activities, showing off their PE skills. These skills included, football, handball, hockey and basketball. All the children showed good sportsmanship and celebrated their successes. We held out as long as possible, but eventually the weather beat us and we had to call it a day earlier than we had intended. Thank you once again for your support.
Activities like these show how physical education can build skills that extend well beyond the sports themselves. A carousel of football, handball, hockey and basketball gives children opportunities to practise coordination and movement, but the emphasis on sportsmanship and celebrating each other's successes is just as valuable. There is also an interesting organisational lesson here: when several activities run as part of one event, clear sequencing and timing can make a big difference to how smoothly the experience works, especially when younger children are involved. The unexpected weather is a good reminder that even well-planned activities need some flexibility and a practical contingency in place.
