Rainbow Rules!

At lunchtime on Friday, the children and staff were amazed to see this spectacle - an "upside down rainbow!"

Keen scientists in Year 5 set off to find out more and, after some research, discovered it wasn't really a rainbow at all but an arc created by the sun reflecting off ice crystals in the clouds, rather than rain. The girls in charge of the lunch time sound system were quick to spot the phenomenon and soon the "Rainbow Colours Song" could be heard across the playground! Further intrigue was generated by the fact that it looked lime there were two suns! The Year 5s also worked out this was caused by the low lying sun piercing through a hole in the clouds.

The Year 5s were each awarded rainbow stickers for sharing their knowledge with everyone on the playground and wore those stickers...... upside down!!!
